Buende is the English version of the German Bünde – where a‘ü’cannot be used, it is translated as Buende. Buende is located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Herford district (and is the second largest city in the district). The town is divided into 12 subdivisions. Buende was first mentioned in documents as far back as 873, and has one of the oldest churches in Westphalia, the Laurentius church (or the Church of Saint Lawrence), dating back to about 778. The town is centred around this old Lutheran church, but there is a second church (Saint Paul’s) built in the late 1800s and with sandstone taken from the Weser River.
